Our History

New Song Center was founded in 1990, incorporated as a nonprofit corporation in February 1990 and granted 501 (c) (3) nonprofit status in 1995. New Song Center has locations throughout Maricopa County. Program's mission is to provide nurturing support for grieving children, youth and young adults and their families, and comprehensive grief education for volunteers, professionals and the community. Support services are provided to custodial caregivers, in conjunction with education, to help them best parent a grieving child during the time of personal stress.

Referrals to New Song Center are received primarily from school counselors, teachers and social workers, Churches, hospitals, medical professionals, hospice organizations, police and fire departments and the professional therapists and counselors in the community.

Over 26,500 children * between the ages of 3 and 18 will experience the death of parent each year. There are almost 780,000 children residing in Maricopa County - calculated from information provided by the 2000 US Census and Maricopa County. The Arizona State University Prevention Institute found that 3.4 percent of children experience the death of a parent (1994 study). Add to this a factor representing those children who experience the death of a sibling, grandparent or other significant loved one, and the impact of grief on our community is staggering. The successful resolution of early grief is vital to becoming a fulfilled, well-adjusted adult. New Song Center was founded to respond to these needs of families within our community.
